Honors College HONR 201 and 202 Texts and Critics Instructor (Applicant Pool)

About the role

The Honors College seeks individuals to serve as instructors for HONR 201 and 202, Texts and Critics, the interdisciplinary seminar for first-year honors college students. We are especially interested in candidates who, through their life experiences, research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to excellence in undergraduate education in the Honors College at Montana State University. We require candidates who are excited about a classroom environment where student voices are centered. We welcome applications from individuals who may have had nontraditional career paths, or who have excelled in careers outside of academia.

Responsibilities

• Teach on-campus course(s).
• Advising, evaluating, and assisting students.
• Participation in weekly, one-hour faculty meetings, Mondays at noon.
• Meeting regularly with, collaborating with, and evaluating the student fellow assigned to your section.
• Provide office hours for students.

Requirements

• Demonstrated and effective teaching experience at the university level.
• A Master’s Degree in a relevant field, combined with either college teaching experience or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Doctoral degree or equivalent experience in an appropriate field of instruction or professional activity as determined by the department.
• Demonstrated experience teaching interdisciplinary courses, preferably in a seminar-style, discussion-based classroom.

• Have the ability to mentor and inspire students from all backgrounds.
• Possess effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and student fellows.
• Be skilled in utilizing engaging pedagogy that centers student voices in the classroom.
• Be open to trying new approaches in the classroom and growing as a teacher.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

The position for which you have applied MAY BE a Union position. Union affiliation is determined by job duties and the collective bargaining unit. Non-Tenure Track Faculty – Any position that is .5 FTE or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU).
