About the role

Mortgage Loan Officers conduct loan interviews and collect all pertinent information needed for verification and underwriting purposes. They employ sales and service techniques to ensure loans are processed and closed according to established mortgage guidelines and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct loan interviews, answer inquiries, and process applications in a timely manner for all real estate requests made by telephone and internet.
  • Counsel applicants during the loan process, obtain additional information when necessary, and keep applicants updated on the status of their application.
  • Prepare mortgage disclosures, collect contracts (if applicable) and all other required documents, and ensure all necessary documentation is signed by applicants.
  • Prepare approved loans for closing, draw closing documents, schedule closing appointments, and conduct closings. Prepare files for final funding.
  • Complete HMDA on all mortgage loans originated.
  • Evaluate applicant financial information including salary, assets, debts, and expenses.
  • Verify the accuracy of all applicant data provided.
  • Certify compliance with all regulations.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain a referral network with professionals such as pool builders to provide an ongoing source of referrals.
  • Analyze potential lending opportunities to assist the borrower and increase the credit union’s lending portfolio.
  • Maintain professional relationships with partners such as Member First Mortgage, Certified Funding, Achieva, and Truhome.
  • Timely and effectively process indirect loans.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with teammates, other departments, management, and mortgage partners regarding mortgage inquiries.
  • Complete internal requests by email or phone and assist other departments with mortgage-related inquiries.
  • Maintain understanding of the credit union’s loan policy, loan products, and services.
  • Ensure the credit union’s lending practices follow state and federal regulations.
