About the role
Independently works to perform routine and special histological procedures on patient tissue specimens.
Responsibilities
- Embeds, sections, accurately labels and processes tissue sections in accordance with department policies and procedures to produce slides for pathologist's review.
- Performs routine and special staining procedures.
- Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation. Recognizes and troubleshoots problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information.
- Serves as a consultant to histotechnicians and other health care providers as needed.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations.
- May assist with collection of anatomic pathology specimens.
- May mentor students and new employees in laboratory testing following WPAHS policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in ASCP eligible program or equivalent HLT (ASCP) certification or eligible and obtained within one (1) year of hire or transfer.
- PREFERRED: Clinical histology experience.
