Histotechnician (HT) - Per Diem

About the role

Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine and complex histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and Special Stains) of human tissue for evaluation. This includes complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, cryotomy, immunofluorescence, and tissue microarray.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine and complex histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist.
• Performs fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and Special Stains) of human tissue for evaluation.
• Executes complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, cryotomy, immunofluorescence, and tissue microarray.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalency AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program.
• OR 60 semester hours of academic credit from an accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), OR an associate degree from an accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the associate degree.
• One year of full time acceptable clinical experience.
• At least 1 year of clinical histology experience.
• HT Certification [ASCP equivalent]

Qualifications

• Effective communication of English language.
• Proficiency in HHC Computer systems i.e. EPIC, SunQuest, CoPath (preferred but not required).
• Ability to provide excellent customer service skills and exhibit a professional attitude.
