History Adjunct (2027 Academic Year)

About the role

Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution in the Virginia Community College System, located at the Spotsylvania campus (177) in Fredericksburg, VA. This posting creates a pool of qualified adjunct candidates for anticipated instructional needs in the 2027 academic year. Adjunct faculty will plan and teach history courses, with particular interest in those qualified to teach American History as well as Western/World Civilization. Assignments are contingent on enrollment, scheduling, program needs, and funding.

Responsibilities

• Plan and teach history courses in classroom or virtual environments to students with diverse academic backgrounds.
• Teach American History and Western/World Civilization courses as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Assist the agency or state government in emergency declarations if required.
• Travel to all campus locations as needed for teaching or other duties.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in the specific discipline (History).
• Official transcripts required prior to final offer.
• Ability to demonstrate use of relevant technology and learning management systems to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment, and communication.
• Commitment to student engagement in online teaching, including consistent communication and virtual support mechanisms.
• Technology capability (Wi‑Fi, computer access) to teach remotely.
• Ability to teach in a variety of modalities, including virtual instruction.
• Demonstrate competency and commitment to continuous professional development in virtual education.
• Complete Growing with Canvas and TOPS 2.2 prior to teaching.

Qualifications

• Prior teaching experience.
• Work experience in the field of history.
• Substantial, proven experience with innovative teaching and developing online courses in both synchronous and asynchronous environments at a regionally accredited institution.
