Job Summary
Join HCA Healthcare, a leading provider of healthcare services, as a Histology Technician PRN.
Qualifications
- Perform histology and cytology procedures including specimen processing/fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, IHC and special stains, case organization in accordance with department procedures.
- Assure positive sample, block and slide identification.
- Prepare and maintain reagents for routine stains and histology procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation per manufacturer & department procedures and per department schedule.
- Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- Minimum one year experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
- State license where required (CA, FL, GA, HI, LA, MT, NV, NY, ND, RI, WV).
Skills
- General knowledge of histology methods and correlation to disease processes.
- Ability to follow protocols for the proper fixation and routine staining of samples.
- Ability to consistently prepare and produce specimen sections with appropriate slide orientation, thickness, and stain quality for microscopic diagnosis by a pathologist.
- Good technique in the cutting, embedding, orientation and staining of specimens.
- General knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication, team work and organizational skills.
- Effective and proactive problem solving and decision making skills.
