Histology Technician PRN

Job Summary

Performs histological procedures of tissue processing, embedding tissues, cutting ribbons using a microtome, hematoxylin and eosin staining, cover slipping and labeling. Must use exacting technical skills during each of these phases. Performs immunohistochemical stains. Follows prescribed procedures using appropriate control tissues to ensure proper reactivity and staining result. Responsible for properly using and maintaining the QA of histology laboratory equipment: microtome, processors, stainers, embedding, paraffin dispenser and other tools in the histology department. Consistently maintains “positive” patient identification using full patient name, medical record number and/or surgical number. Always matches specimen identification to written or computer information. Never compromises. Performs frozen section processing of tissues using a cryostat. Assists in fine needle aspirates.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience required
