About the role

Labcorp is seeking a Histology Team Leader to join our team at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. This position assists the supervisor with the day-to-day operations of the Histology department while ensuring quality patient care and efficient laboratory workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the supervisor with the day-to-day operations of the Histology department
  • Send daily, weekly, and monthly production reports to management
  • Assist with the training of new hires and the development of current employees
  • Keep supervisor informed of group progress, problems, employee performance, and any significant factors affecting assigned responsibilities
  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to SOPs
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Histology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • 3+ years of experience as a Histotechnician/Histotechnologist
  • Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
  • Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high-volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficiency with computers and laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Histology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • 3+ months of Immunohistochemistry experience
  • Histology and/or ASCP certifications
  • 6+ months of supervising or leading a team

Additional Information

In lieu of the education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may be considered.

Pay

$39.50 - $54.00 per hour. All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills, prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
