About the role
PAML, a Labcorp company, is seeking a Histology Team Lead to join our team in Richland, WA. This role involves leading and performing complex histological procedures, including immunohistochemistry (IHC) and special stains, while ensuring accurate and timely test results for quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Perform IHC and special stains within the Histology department.
- Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic examination.
- Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens, including sectioning embedded tissue using a microtome and mounting sections on microscope slides.
- Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
- Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures.
- Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens.
- Prepare stains and reagents needed for special procedures.
- Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
- Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments.
- Perform and document equipment maintenance, including preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Record equipment log data accurately and timely.
- Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies and procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and reporting.
- Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed.
Requirements
- Associate’s of Science degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
- 2 or more years of Histology experience.
- In lieu of the education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may be accepted.
- Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment.
- Comfortable embedding both large and small specimens.
- Ability to accurately read all labels and documents.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems, SOPs, and safety protocols.
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
- Exceptional customer service and strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Comfortable working under minimal supervision.
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.
Qualifications
- Histology and ASCP certifications (preferred).
- 5 or more years of Histology experience (preferred).
- 6 months or more of Immunohistochemistry experience (preferred).
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 4:30 am to 1:00 pm. Overtime and rotating weekends may be required.
Pay
Pay range: $26.40 - $42.75 hourly, plus Shift 3 differentials. All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills, prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, internal equity, and market data.
