Histology Laboratory Technical Specialist

Position Summary

Evaluates and coordinates activities with vendors and implements procedures for test methodology, specimen handling and instrumentation. Ensures compliance with the standards of accrediting and regulatory agencies. Designs, monitors, and directs staff in quality assurance systems including quality control, test utilization, and proficiency testing. Participates in and leads HealthPartners hospital and ambulatory technical teams and committees as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

• Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Cytology or a related healthcare field OR Associate’s Degree in Histotechnology. Three years’ operational laboratory experience required in specialty.
• Previous technical leadership experience
• Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: American Society of Clinical Pathology in specialty, if offered (ASCP or ASCPi).

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Proficient with laboratory information management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills and proven leadership qualities.
• Possesses comfort interacting with customers and providers of various educational backgrounds.
• Ability to analyze workflows, develop plans, and implement appropriate actions.
• Exhibits a high degree of organization, with proven attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
• Possesses effective problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Master’s degree in related field
• Experience across multiple laboratory disciplines
• Five years operational laboratory experience in specialty.
• Knowledge of general method evaluation, validation, and research and development of methodology.
• Possesses comprehensive knowledge of accrediting and regulatory agencies standards.
