Histology Laboratory Assistant - Rochester General Hospital (Full-Time, Days)

Responsibilities

• Verifies patient identification on specimens and requisitions, notifies the manager or designee of any discrepancies.
• Registers surgical specimens in the LIS system and provides positive patient identification throughout processing.
• Obtains necessary information if missing.
• Organizes and files slides, blocks and paperwork in numerical order.
• Prepares, stains, cover slips and labels specimens.
• Performs preventive maintenance of equipment and reagents then documents on the applicable logs.
• Maintains and runs recycler.
• Maintains departmental reagent inventories.
• Notifies appropriate person when supplies reach reorder level.
• Enters incoming cases received from reference labs or consultations.
• Prepares cases for send out to reference labs.
• Works with Leadership and lab employees to accomplish departmental goals and objectives.
• Promotes and supports positive team environment in the department.
• Participates in scheduled department meetings.
• Complies with established procedures and company policy.

Requirements

• Minimum of six (6) months laboratory experience required.
• Computer experience required.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree preferred.
