Manager, Clinical Laboratory - Histology - Full Time, Days
NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The facility includes the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services such as women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. It operates a Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center, a Primary Stroke Center designated by the New York State Department of Health, and multiple outpatient sites including a wound care center, hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Clinical Laboratory - Histology to join our team full-time on the day shift. In this role, you will manage the quality and quantity of work, procedures, personnel, and costs for the clinical laboratory. You will formulate goals, assign objectives, establish standards of practice, and ensure continuity of services while supervising all techniques and procedures associated with clinical laboratory testing.
Responsibilities
- Validation of new testing in the laboratory; work with the director and administrative director to develop new tests as needed.
- Management of staff: assign responsibilities, establish work hours, monitor staffing, and approve necessary overtime.
- Staff development, evaluation, counseling, and personnel-related activities: oversee supervision of staff, interview prospective employees, evaluate and document staff performance, and perform personnel counseling. Identify staff needs and develop programs to meet them.
- Procedure development and quality control: develop and implement laboratory operating policies and procedures, including quality control standards. Maintain ongoing development and modification of the laboratory's quality control program and ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements. Maintain relevant records consistent with regulatory standards.
- Planning and budgeting/cost containment: participate in cost control activities by seeking the most effective method of delivering quality services and maintain awareness of the cost impact of decisions and actions.
- Equipment procurement.
- Time utilization/behavioral standards: prioritize and coordinate responsibilities and duties to ensure smooth laboratory operation. Cooperate and communicate effectively with staff and directors.
- Reports/documentation: work with the Director to prepare reports and oversee all departmental documentation.
- Work with the Quality Manager to prepare for inspections and follow up on quality-related issues in the laboratory; perform Quality Manager responsibilities if necessary.
- Resolve administrative issues delegated or assigned by the Laboratory Administrative Director.
- Perform the responsibilities of the Laboratory Safety Officer.
- Manage Gross Room activities and grossing.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Science, or a related field.
- NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
- Minimum of four years in a clinical laboratory with supervisory or management responsibilities and knowledge in all areas of the clinical laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASCP certification.
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of NYS and CAP regulatory requirements for anatomical and histology laboratory testing.
- Familiarity with instrument interfaces and functionality of laboratory information systems.
Pay
The salary range for this role is $84,956.87 - $143,709.52 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
