Histology Assistant - Anatomic Pathology

About the role

Texas Children’s is searching for a Histology Assistant to support their surgical pathology and histology operations. This position requires someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Validates specimen identification and appropriateness of sample type and size and prioritizes workload according to handling protocols defined in section manuals within the established turnaround times
  • Performs required quality control procedures according to the written guidelines in the section procedure manuals as documented on QC log sheets
  • Performs daily maintenance and calibration procedures to ensure proper functioning of instruments
  • Maintains files for special stain and immunohistochemistry request sheets and for AP study sheets and maintains filing systems for blocks and slides
  • Performs mandated reading assignments and reviews and signs off on procedure manuals, communication logs, and memorandums in a timely manner
  • Participates in proficiency testing programs to validate instruments and competency

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required
  • One year of post-high school education in a college or technical program for laboratory science required
  • One year of post-high school education in a college or technical program for laboratory science may be substituted for the one year of required experience in a laboratory setting
