Responsibilities
- Process all cytology, biopsy, and aspirate specimens received from other patient care areas.
- Perform immunocytochemical stains and assist the pathologist in processing tissue for immediate frozen sections.
- Arrange for submission of various tissue and gynecological specimens, including thin preps and prepared smears to reference laboratories.
- Report pertinent information to the pathologist, patient care area, or supervisor (e.g., instrument malfunctions, delay in testing, reagent, or supply depletion).
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas and keep work areas organized and stocked.
- Follow safety procedures and utilize all safety devices and personal protective equipment per protocol.
- Follow procedures and refer to procedure manuals for proper instructions when needed.
- Be proficient in operating instrumentation and equipment and follow trouble-shooting procedures to correct deficiencies or problems as they occur.
- Ensure instrument operations and results are reliable and perform maintenance checks, startups, and/or shutdowns as assigned or as required.
- Answer telephones, greet customers, and provide consults and technical support to the pathologists, physicians, and nursing staff.
- Follow quality control policy and ensure controls are within acceptable limits before patient results are reported.
Requirements
- High School education
- Current license in the State of Florida at the Histology or Cytology Technologist level
- Associate’s Degree or higher from a NACCLS approved Histotechnology program OR a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological Science
- HT/L (ASCP) certification
- Two years of hospital experience
- Ability to work with tissue processors

Pay
Pay Range Minimum hourly: $34.00 Maximum hourly: $45.65
Schedule
Variable shifts from 11:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. or 9:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. with weekend requirements.
