Hudson Valley Hospice is hosting a hiring event for Home Health Aide (HHA) positions on August 20, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 374 Violet Ave, Poughkeepsie NY. We are actively seeking compassionate and reliable individuals to become HHAs. Already certified as an HHA, PCA, or CNA? Come interview with us on the spot. Not certified? You are still encouraged to attend. We offer free training classes to help you get started.

  • Training Opportunities Available:

    • PCA to HHA transition course (5 days)
    • CNA to HHA transition course (2 days)
    • 13-day intensive training program for those without prior certification

What you will do as an HHA

  • Completes Hospice Aide duties following established plan of care.
  • Provides 24-hour continuous care for patient/families in their home, as needed.
  • Reports all patient condition changes and/or uncontrolled symptoms to primary nurse, on-call nurse, TL or DPS immediately.
  • Maintains adequate records of all patient/family care services, as per policy.
  • Reports all cases of abuse/neglect to supervisor, as per policy.
  • Completes required competencies, infection control and ins-services.
  • Affords assistance with orientation of new Hospice Aides as requested by supervisor.
  • Participates in community education activities which promote Hudson Valley Hospice and its philosophy.
  • Notifies Hospice in the event of patient changes and uncontrolled symptoms.

Skills we are looking for

  • Requires flexibility to meet assigned tasks.
  • Can effectively communicate in English, both verbally (in person and by phone) and in writing.
  • Capability to work effectively and cooperatively as a team member.
  • Understanding of hospice philosophy and the care we provide.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Bilingual is a plus!

Work Environment

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Travel by car to patient’s home; reliable transportation required.
  • Overtime available; weekend coverage required.
  • All shift availability - flexibility to work crisis-care hours when needed.
  • Uniform - Scrubs required - provided by Hudson Valley Hospice.
  • Routine duties involve potential for direct exposure to blood or body fluids.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license with reliable transportation.

Hours/Schedules available

  • 40 hours per week - Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday (8:30am-4:30pm); one weekend day per month on call rotation.

Pay

  • $19-23 per hour (based on experience)
