HIM Verification Specialist

About the role

This position is responsible for picking up, prepping, verifying, and digitally categorizing documents into electronic medical records via a variety of applications/systems to ensure clinical information is accurate and available for patient care in a timely manner. Associates living greater than 50 miles from their assigned Nemours Home Office Site will not be required to participate in the mail pick-up task.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes and classifies all incoming documents for scanning to the document management system (including email attachments, CD uploads, etc.).
• Serves as primary data verification analyst, enters discrete data accurately and timely to support clinical decision-making, and analyzes specialty referrals to create consult orders for scheduling.
• Maintains standards of accuracy and productivity while proposing innovative ideas for efficiency and enhancements.
• Demonstrates competency in EMR, Optical Character Recognition applications, Document Imaging Software, Microsoft Office Applications, and Rightfax.
• Responsible for testing upgrades and new applications.
• Processes documentation directly from NemoursLink and messages from Care Everywhere.
• Applies working knowledge of HIM policies and reliable methods governing all verification processes.
• Utilizes advanced technology to eliminate printing and redundancy of documents.
• Approaches problems with independent judgment, critical thinking, and communication skills to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
• Resolves escalated issues requiring coordination with other departments.

Requirements

• Associate degree (RHIA/RHIT preferred).
• 1-3 years of experience required.
