Responsibilities
- Aids patients with birth registration and paternity processes by collecting and verifying patient information.
- Enters birth data into the electronic State of Arizona Birth Reporting System.
- Prioritizes work and reconciles newborn patients with birth registration submissions to ensure 100% submission of HonorHealth patient births and fetal deaths.
- Works with the patient and the State of Arizona Birth Registration to resolve issues related to birth certificates and paternity affidavits.
- Researches patient admission histories and collaborates with Patient Registration and other departments as necessary to determine correct medical record merges.
- Maintains the integrity of the master patient index (MPI), merging, unmerging, and overlaying as needed.
- Facilitates synchronization with other indices throughout the organization.
- Maintains the physician suspension process, including monitoring, tracking, and reporting physician deficiencies in the HonorHealth electronic medical record system.
- Distributes chart deficiency and suspension information to physicians, providers, and other appropriate entities.
- Participates in department activities and actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures.
- Completes all position and department safety-related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- An associates degree preferred.
- Two years of experience in any or all of the following: master patient index maintenance, records analysis, medical records processing.
- Three years of experience in any or all of the following: master patient index maintenance, records analysis, medical records processing.
- A basic understanding and use of computers, telephones, fax, copy machines, and data entry into computer programs.
- Excellent communication skills with physicians.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations relative to birth registration and the confidentiality and security of patient health information.
- Experience in a role utilizing excellent communication and analytical skills.
Qualifications
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification.
- Preferred Registered Arizona State Birth Registrar certification.
