About the role
The HIM Specialist at Yavapai Regional Medical Center will manage patient health information and medical records, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and integrity for patient care.
Responsibilities
- Retrieve, file, and organize patient records (physical/electronic), ensuring completeness and confidentiality.
- Process information requests, verify identities, assist providers with access, and conduct quality checks on scanned documents.
- Update demographics, handle correspondence, and respond to inquiries per privacy regulations.
- Perform birth registration functions, collect and process data necessary to meet state requirements.
- Answer phones and assist customers in HIM customer service efforts, utilizing proper telephone etiquette.
- Review each encounter for completeness and identify incomplete or missing documentation and signatures.
- Respond to formal requests for medical records from third parties, maintaining compliant actions and logging appropriately.
- Review pended dictations for actions, completion, and use in the EMR.
- Review and respond to medical record document messages from providers and staff for corrections.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED
- One (1) year of experience working with medical records
- One (1) year of medical office experience
Preferred
- One (1) year of experience working with medical records in an acute care Health Information Management (HIM) environment
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
- Completion of a HIM equivalent study course
- Cerner Experience
