HIM Specialist
About the role
As an HIM Specialist, you will provide essential operational support by managing document imaging, record maintenance, and accurate chart reviews. You will ensure that all patient health information remains secure and compliant with HIPAA and regulatory standards. You will work within established workflows to maintain timely processing and handle departmental inquiries effectively.
Responsibilities
- Perform core HIM functions including document preparation, scanning, indexing, and quality checks.
- Assist with basic chart review for completeness and escalate deficiencies as appropriate.
- Support record retrieval, filing, and maintenance activities.
- Assist with release of information (ROI) requests and departmental inquiries.
- Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of patient health information in compliance with HIPAA.
- Meet productivity and quality standards for assigned tasks.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience in Health Information Management, medical records, or healthcare setting
- Basic experience with electronic medical record systems
Qualifications
- Registered Health Information Technician (preferred)
- Registered Health Information Administrator (preferred)
- Associates in health-related field or completion of healthcare degree program (preferred)
