Responsibilities

  • Pick up trash and debris from Indiana highways and interstates.
  • Fill potholes and maintain drainage systems.
  • Plow snow during winter and assist with traffic control during emergencies.
  • Perform regular inspections and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Operate and maintain highway maintenance/traffic equipment.
  • Move and load supplies and materials.
  • Perform winter operations duties including snow and ice removal.
  • Engage in emergency response activities such as clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, sign placement, and barricade erection.
  • Operate and maintain specialty traffic equipment (e.g., bucket trucks, paint equipment).
  • Follow INDOT safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and work as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds and perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods.
  • Endured exposure to inclement weather.
  • Ability to operate specialty traffic equipment.
  • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.

Pay

This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $20.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package. CDL Positions earn an additional $1 per hour, while candidates without a CDL earn an additional $1 per hour after 90 days of employment. CDL training is provided onsite by certified INDOT staff.
