Highway Technician Associate - Sioux City

About the role

The Iowa Department of Transportation seeks a Highway Technician Associate who enjoys variety in their daily tasks and prioritizes safety. This role involves various roadside activities including patching roads, repairing guardrails, and managing traffic.

Responsibilities

• Patching and repairing roads
• Maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts, and waterways
• Participating in traffic control for maintenance activities
• Picking up and disposing of litter and debris
• Operating snow equipment to clear snow, ice, and frost from roadways
• Mowing, cutting brush, and controlling vegetation
• Spraying pesticides/herbicides as needed

Requirements

• CDL permit upon hire
• Class A CDL with required endorsements/restrictions within 5 months of hire
• Training available through the Iowa DOT for CDL requirements
• A pre-employment physical verifying physical ability to perform duties
• Pre-employment drug screen and ongoing random drug/alcohol testing
• May need to obtain additional certifications as required

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least 4 years of education and/or full-time experience in highway maintenance or equipment operation

Pay and Schedule

Hourly rate and schedule: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Some overnight travel may be required.
