Job Summary

Performs a wide range of high-level highway operational duties including scheduling, assigning, and overseeing crew work, inspecting work, training and guiding staff. Operates and trains others on various motorized vehicles and equipment, inspects and repairs highway system features, and performs detailed maintenance tasks.

Job Duties

  • Operates and trains others on truck-mounted and/or stand-alone motorized vehicles and equipment to perform assigned work duties.
  • Inspects, repairs, and trains others on all highway system features, safety, and components, making periodic adjustments and documenting status.
  • Enters crew cards into Pecos work program and assists with unit budget.
  • Performs difficult, skilled tasks appropriate to roadway maintenance, operates heavy equipment, and manages work activities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Procedures, practices, and methods of vehicle and equipment operation, preventive maintenance, and minor repair.
  • Office procedures, procurement, Pecos reporting and coding, inventory, and customer relations.
  • Federal, state, and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to work activities, safety practices, and public relations.
  • Materials, equipment, and tools used in work activities and established work methods and standards.
  • Manual on Traffic Control Devices for work zones.
  • Math, accounting, English, grammar, and computer systems (MS suites and Google).

Selective Preference(s)

  • Experience equivalent to a Highway Operations Tech 1, 2, or 3.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • A commercial driver's license with N endorsement at time of appointment.
