Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1/Trainee 2/Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (Region 8 - Rockland County)

Duties

Individuals selected must be able to respond to emergency callout within 1 hour during inclement weather, including all snow and ice conditions, to be considered for this position.

• Perform routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort involving exposure to all kinds of weather conditions.
• Operate plows during winter operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1

• Must be 18 years old.
• Pass physical/medical examination and drug test*.
• Possess a Class D Driver License.

Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2

• Must be 18 years old.
• Pass physical/medical examination* and drug test.
• Possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with no airbrake restriction.
• Candidates will be evaluated on their ability to satisfactorily operate a NYSDOT large dump truck within two weeks of appointment. Failure to pass will result in termination.

Highway Maintenance Worker 1

• Satisfactory completion of the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in the operation of highway construction, maintenance equipment, or other vehicles in excess of 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with air brakes.
• Possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with DOT-specified endorsements.
• Two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications: heavy dump truck, one person plowing with single or double wing, and front-end loader.
• Must satisfactorily complete NYSDOT Heavy Dump Certification within the first two weeks of employment or employment will be terminated.

Additional Comments

• The starting salary for the Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1 is $57,465.
• The starting salary for the Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2 is $59,475.
• The starting salary for the Highway Maintenance Worker 1 is $60,143.
• A Mid-Hudson Adjustment of $2,000 or a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000 may also apply depending on the location of the position.

• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
