Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1/Trainee 2/Highway Maintenance Worker 1(R7-Clinton County)

Duties Description

Individuals selected must be able to respond to emergency callout within 1 hour during inclement weather, including all snow and ice conditions, to be considered for this position.

• Perform routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort involving exposure to all kinds of weather conditions.
• Operate plows during winter operations and obtain the equipment certifications listed above.
• Serve a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1:
• Must be 18 years old, pass physical/medical examination and drug test*, and possess a Class D Driver License.
• Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2:
• Must be 18 years old, pass physical/medical examination* and drug test; and possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with no airbrake restriction.
• Highway Maintenance Worker 1:
• Satisfactory completion of the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in the operation of highway construction, maintenance equipment, or other vehicles in excess of 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with air brakes and possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with DOT-specified endorsements, and two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications, in addition to the following three specific certifications: heavy dump truck, one person plowing with single or double wing, and front-end loader.

  • Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1: Starting salary - $48,855 (base salary - $39,855 + $9,000 geographic pay differential).
  • Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2: Starting salary - $51,0258 (base salary - $42,058 + $9,000 geographic pay differential).
  • Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Starting salary - $53,430 (base salary - $44,430 + $9,000 geographic pay differential).
