Duties Description
Individuals selected must be able to respond to emergency callouts within 1 hour during inclement weather, including all snow and ice conditions, to be considered for this position.
- Perform routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort involving exposure to all kinds of weather conditions.
- Operate plows during winter operations and obtain the required equipment certifications.
- Serve a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1:
- Must be 18 years old, pass physical/medical examination and drug test*, and possess a Class D Driver License.
- Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2:
- Must be 18 years old, pass physical/medical examination* and drug test; and possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with no airbrake restriction.
- Highway Maintenance Worker 1:
- Satisfactory completion of the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in the operation of highway construction, maintenance equipment, or other vehicles in excess of 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with air brakes and possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with DOT-specified endorsements, and two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications, in addition to the following three specific certifications: heavy dump truck, one person plowing with single or double wing, and front-end loader.
- Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1: Starting salary - $48,855. Base salary - $39,855 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000.
- Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2: Starting salary - $51,058. Base salary - $42,058 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000.
- Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Starting salary - $53,430. Base salary - $44,430 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000.
