About the role
Performs skilled manual labor and operates medium-duty equipment such as Skid Steer in a variety of activities associated with the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system. Work is performed on shoulders, ditches, drainage structures, etc.
Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of vegetation management activities by operating medium-duty equipment including Combination Tractor with side-mounted mower
- Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspection in accordance with the Department's most current rules, policies, and procedures for fleet safety
- Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public, and equipment
- Operates chain saw in cutting trees on right-of-way
- Operates standard dump truck with snow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges
- Operates brine truck during snow and ice events
- Picks up litter and debris
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence
- A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required
- Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position
- Physical demands involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards
- May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather
