Responsibilities
- Operate a standard dump truck to haul materials for shoulder and ditch maintenance.
- Perform manual labor tasks including clearing right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, making base repairs, repairing bridges, paving driveways, and laying side/cross line pipe.
- Operate small equipment such as a 4-ton asphalt roller and a concrete mixer for asphalt road and bridge repairs.
- Assist with the placement of traffic control devices to set up maintenance work zones.
- Serve as a flagger to safely direct and control traffic in work zones.
- Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations, including extended working hours or 12-hour shifts.
- Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
Requirements
- No minimum training or experience requirements.
- A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
- Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Demands
- Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping, and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
- Frequent exposure to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease.
Schedule
May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. May also be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
