Responsibilities
- Pick up litter, debris, and dead animals from interstates, primary, and secondary routes in Lee County.
- Operate a dump truck and perform manual labor related to the construction, repair, and preservation of roads on the state highway system.
- Operate a brush chipper and perform manual labor for road construction, repair, and preservation.
- Perform vegetation management activities using powered hand tools.
- Assist with the placement of traffic control devices to set up maintenance work zones.
- Serve as a flagger to safely direct and control traffic in maintenance work zones.
- Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations, including operating small equipment.
- May be required to work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
Requirements
- No minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
- Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement in the position.
Physical Demands
- Essential functions involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping, and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
- Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
- May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and emergencies.

- May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
