Responsibilities

  • Flag traffic for work zones.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including picking up litter/debris, cleaning curb and gutter, cleaning bridges, assisting with paving drives and patching.
  • Assist with the installation and maintenance of traffic signs and pavement markings.
  • Operate power tools such as chain saws, pole saws, weed eaters, augers, and jackhammers as needed.
  • Operate standard dump trucks to haul materials and equipment.
  • Use hand tools such as shovels, bush axes, axes, and hammers to complete required tasks.
  • Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations, which may include extended working hours or 12-hour shifts.

Requirements

  • No minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
  • Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Demands

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and in natural environmental hazards.

May be required to work outside of normal scheduled work week, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
