Highway Maintenance Worker 1/ Trainee 1/ Trainee 2 (Region 9 - Sullivan) Perm

Duties

Perform routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort involving exposure to all kinds of weather conditions.

Will be expected to operate plows during winter operations and to obtain the equipment certifications listed above.

May serve a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications

Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1

• Must be 18 years old
• Pass physical/medical examination and drug test*
• Possess a Class D Driver License

Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2

• Must be 18 years old
• Pass physical/medical examination*
• Possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with no airbrake restriction
• Candidates will be evaluated on their ability to satisfactorily operate a NYSDOT large dump truck within two weeks of appointment. Failure to pass will result in termination.

Highway Maintenance Worker 1

• Satisfactory completion of the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in the operation of highway construction, maintenance equipment, or other vehicles in excess of 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with air brakes
• Possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with DOT-specified endorsements
• Two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications: heavy dump truck, one person plowing with single or double wing, and front-end loader
• Within the first two weeks of employment, applicant must satisfactorily complete NYSDOT Heavy Dump Certification or employment will be terminated.

• The starting salary for the Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1 is $52,606. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $43,606 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.
• The starting salary for the Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2 is $54,809. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $45,809 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.
• The starting salary for the Highway Maintenance Worker 1 is $57,183. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $48,183 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.
