About the role
The Department of Transportation (CDOT) is seeking a Highway Maintenance Specialist in Frederick, CO. Applications are welcome from both residents and non-residents of Colorado.
Responsibilities
- No two days are exactly the same. Daily tasks vary based on project needs, weather, and road conditions.
- On-call and subject to call for emergencies.
- Work in teams, with at least one lead highway maintenance specialist and multiple specialists.
- Perform various tasks including plowing snow, operating heavy equipment, mowing grass, removing debris, installing and repairing guardrail, and filling potholes.
- Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs.
- Follow safety guidelines and wear appropriate safety equipment.
Requirements
- At least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.
- A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes that allows operation within Colorado.
- Eligible to drive in Colorado with your CDL at time of hire.
- Must be willing and able to work in extreme temperatures, variable weather conditions, and at varying elevations up to 12,000 feet.
- Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays.

Skills

Pay
Base pay for this position is $2,074.62 /biweekly ($53,940/annually). An additional $1000/month housing stipend is available.
Schedule
40-hour work weeks, with opportunity for overtime during weather emergencies. 4-day work schedule (10-hour days Monday-Thursday) during the summer months, typically May through September.
