About the role
We are currently seeking a motivated entry-level Highway Designer to join our growing Transportation Business Line in Lexington, KY. This opportunity offers a flexible work schedule with options for hybrid or in-office work, designed to support your work-life balance and professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design of highway and roadway projects including interchanges, intersection improvements, roadway widening, traffic management systems, ADA upgrades, and pedestrian safety enhancements.
- Support development of horizontal and vertical alignments, typical sections, maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans, drainage layouts, and site grading.
- Perform conceptual through final design work using Bentley software tools including OpenRoads Designer (ORD), MicroStation, and InRoads.
- Interpret and apply relevant design standards including AASHTO, KYTC, MUTCD, and ADA guidelines.
- Participate in field visits and site evaluations to collect data and support design development.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to project deliverables including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
- 0–4 years of relevant experience in highway, roadway, or civil infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of Bentley design tools (MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads Designer); training available for strong candidates.
- Understanding of transportation engineering fundamentals and ability to apply design criteria in real-world applications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
Qualifications
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of GIS and/or AutoCAD is a plus.
Skills
