About the role
Assist in the maintenance of all County and State Highways where assigned. The current vacancy will be based in Iron River, WI.
Responsibilities
- Roadway maintenance and construction
- Roadside drainage operations
- Mowing and brushing operations
- Hauling materials for maintenance and construction
- Plowing snow and ice removal operations
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of highway department buildings, grounds, and equipment
- Other duties as assigned
Equipment Operation
- Mower tractors
- Front end-loaders
- Motor graders
- Chipper
- Chain saws
- Brush saws
- Various size trucks (from pickup to quad-axle dump trucks)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of highway operations including the operation of mower tractors, front end-loaders, motor graders, chipper, chain saws, brush saws, and various size trucks
- Ability to produce an accurate account of all materials used, time expended, and machinery used in each area of work accomplished
- Knowledge of or ability to handle various manual tasks including pavement maintenance, roadside drainage, shoulder maintenance, and the operation of snow and ice removal equipment
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, and the public
- Knowledge of and experience using personal protective equipment and safety gear
Other Qualifications
- Must possess or obtain within 60 days of employment a State of Wisconsin CDL Class A driver's license with air brake endorsement
- Telephone or pager device required as all employees are subject to 24-hour call-out
- At least 3 years previous experience in road construction and maintenance preferred
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Successfully pass a physical examination and CDL drug and alcohol screening
