High Voltage Transmission Inspector

WSP is seeking a High Voltage Transmission Line Inspector for our Power Constructors, Inc. (PCI) sector in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This position offers the flexibility to work remotely from any mutually acceptable location and may require up to 100% travel.

About the Role

Provide inspection support to engineers and project managers to ensure construction compliance with plans, specifications, contract documents, and codified requirements. Perform field inspections on various assigned construction projects of moderate scale, scope, and complexity, including examining concrete placement, underground pipelines, earthwork, roadway paving, buildings, structures, systems, materials, mechanical and electrical installations, foundations, and environmental elements.

Responsibilities

• Collect, compile, and analyze data from physical work sites, surveys, structural plans, blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, flow diagrams, material sampling, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for single or multi-phase field inspection activities.
• Use survey instruments, metering devices, and test equipment to perform inspections on projects of moderate complexity, assessing site conditions, equipment, construction, materials, controls, layout, alignment, and elevation for compliance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and permits.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance for proper inspection, construction, and functioning of infrastructure according to design standard specifications.
• Act as a consultant on work progress and problem resolution; may serve as the sole inspector on a project or assist in overseeing inspection activities for projects of moderate scope.
• Verify load calculations, change orders, and interpretation of contract plans and specifications; resolve differences in plan interpretations.
• Monitor project phasing plans and contractors' work to ensure quality control and contract compliance; document work progress and issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute project work.
• Attend pre-construction meetings and address questions from contractors and attendees.
• Assist with calculating payments due to contractors for completed work.
• Write technical reports summarizing inspection findings and conclusions; generate accurate documentation using photographs, sketches, calculations, software, spreadsheets, technical drawings, and reports.
• Assist with risk identification and assessment, offering input, analysis, escalation, or resolution for construction, mitigation, and improvement activities.
• Support work plan preparation and coordination of field/site work, reviewing staffing, equipment utilization, and time/cost estimates.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-level inspection staff.
• Coordinate project inspection schedules with client and contractor personnel.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

• High School Diploma.
• Minimum of 9 years of relevant post-education experience in construction inspection.
• Essential professional licensure or certification(s).
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Well-defined knowledge of construction inspection principles, field practices, processes, methods, and techniques.
• Familiarity with relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Analytical mindset with sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to learn new techniques, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge and reach effective solutions.
• Ability to direct subcontractors and junior staff to complete tasks safely, efficiently, and accurately.
• Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
• Flexibility to work extended schedules as required by project needs.
• Occasional travel may be required based on project-specific needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a closely related discipline.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work up to 12-hour days, 5 to 6 days a week, if required by the project.
• Willingness to travel and stay on-site for a minimum of 6 weeks at a time.
• Capability to work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods.
• Must be able to wear company-provided PPE for the entire shift while on-site.
• Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs at any given time throughout the day.
• Must be able to walk 3 to 5 miles per day across rough or unlevel terrain.
• Ability to step in and out of a 3/4-ton pickup truck multiple times a day.
