High Voltage Transmission Inspector

WSP is seeking a Transmission Line Inspector for our Honolulu, Hawaii project site. This position offers the ability to work remotely from the field, performing inspections on Underground HV Transmission Line Projects. About the Role

This opportunity involves providing technical design and CADD support, guidance, and oversight to ensure the production of designs and specifications for planning, transportation, infrastructure, and technical services. You will oversee and generate CADD designs for multi-site or multi-phase construction projects of moderate to large scale and complexity. The role includes generating accurate design-phase deliverables such as reports, technical memoranda, design manuals, plans, profiles, models, sections, details, specifications, and material lists.

As a Transmission Line Inspector, you will provide high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) transmission line inspection support to engineers and project managers. This ensures compliance with approved plans, specifications, utility standards, contract documents, and regulatory requirements (including NESC, OSHA, NERC, and utility construction standards).

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections of overhead and underground transmission line construction projects, including:
  • Transmission structures and foundations
  • Drilled shafts and concrete placement
  • Conductor stringing, sagging, and clipping
  • Insulators and hardware assemblies
  • Grounding systems
  • ROW access roads
  • Environmental compliance
• Inspect substation interfaces, underground duct banks, vaults, high-voltage cable installations, and associated civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical installations.
• Generate accurate inspection reports, daily logs, non-conformance documentation, and photo records for HV/EHV transmission line construction and power delivery projects.
• Collect, compile, and analyze data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to support drafting and design activities.
• Use 3D computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software to resolve design details or discrepancies and prepare precise drawings for projects of moderate to large scale and complexity.
• Provide technical design assistance, ensuring proper illustration, fit, form, and function using geometric dimensioning, tolerance, and quantity calculations.
• Monitor and verify accuracy of calculations, design changes, and contract interpretations, escalating or resolving discrepancies as needed.
• Work individually or as part of a cross-functional team, occasionally leading tasks or overseeing drafting/design support staff.
• Ensure plans adhere to city, state, and federal regulations.
• Prepare multiple design versions for engineer review and oversee drafting/design plans for quality control and contract compliance.
• Collaborate with engineers and technical professionals on project phases, checks, and tasks.
• Apply analytical techniques and software to solve complex engineering issues or modify existing designs per project standards.
• Engage with client and contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate project drafting and design support reviews.
• Attend pre-construction meetings and address questions from contractors and attendees.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-level drafting and design support staff.
• Stay current with the latest drafting and design support knowledge, techniques, and practices.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies, exercising responsible and ethical decision-making.

Requirements

• High School Diploma.
• Minimum of 11 years of relevant post-education experience in drafting and design support.
• Advanced knowledge of drafting and design support principles, practices, processes, methods, and techniques.
• Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Strong ability to perform technical computations and calculations involving geometry and mathematical concepts.
• Analytical mindset with sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to learn new techniques, multitask, follow instructions, and work independently while complying with company policies.
• Advanced proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge and reach data-driven conclusions.

Preferred Qualifications
