The position ensures high‑voltage systems operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with industry‑leading standards, including NETA‑MTS, IEEE, NFPA, and NERC PRC‑005‑6C. You will also verify commissioning against NETA‑ATS, manufacturer specifications, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair high‑voltage equipment—including transformers, breakers, switchgear, cables, and associated BESS systems—following company procedures, industry standards, and safety guidelines.
  • Verify commissioning of high‑voltage systems in alignment with NETA‑ATS standards, collaborating with third‑party contractors and external teams during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve faults in high‑voltage electrical systems, applying innovative solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure maintenance and commissioning tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and within established timelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and commissioning activities, generate detailed reports for internal stakeholders, and update the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) as required.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations, including NFPA 70E, OSHA standards, IEEE safety guidelines, and NETA safety procedures, fostering a culture of safety excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or technical certificate.
  • At least five (5) years of experience with high‑voltage electrical equipment in testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance, preferably in renewable energy systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory, high‑voltage principles, and grounding systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with high‑voltage equipment such as transformers, switchgear, switchboards, ATS, breakers, and cables.
  • Extensive knowledge of voltage systems ranging from 120 VAC to 345 kV and of AC/DC control voltages (focus on 125 VDC floating‑ground control).
  • Familiarity with industry standards including IEEE, NETA, NFPA, ANSI, and IEC.
  • Proficiency in advanced electrical testing on equipment such as transformers, SF₆ breakers, vacuum breakers, medium‑voltage cables, air switches, metering & relaying, SCADA and control systems, and thermography.
  • Experience testing and maintaining critical substation components (transformers, breakers, switchgear, capacitors, voltage regulators, etc.).
  • Commissioning and integration experience with SCADA systems; basic PLC troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to perform cable repairs and welding (advantageous).
  • Knowledge of UPS systems, including substation batteries and chargers.
  • Proficient in LOTO procedures, arc‑flash protection, and NFPA 70E safety standards.
  • Expert use of PPE with thorough understanding of high‑voltage‑specific hazards.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to diagnose complex equipment failures and implement long‑term solutions.

Additional Details

  • Domestic travel up to 75% of the time, with occasional overnight trips.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Must comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies.

Compensation

Hourly range: $45.00 – $60.00 USD. The position is eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan. ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws; actual pay may vary based on geography, experience, education, internal alignment, or other bona fide factors.
