About the role
The Special Education Teacher is a state certified teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. The role focuses on providing instruction, support, and guidance to students with special needs as defined by their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Responsibilities
- Communicate with parents and related service staff to ensure students with special needs are receiving appropriate therapies.
- Develop and maintain compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other state-specific special education documentation.
- Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings such as annual IEP meetings.
- Use provided resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities, including assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, and accessible text.
- Make necessary modifications and accommodations to Stride K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP.
- Monitor student progress towards IEP goals and objectives through data collection and analysis.
- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
- Demonstrate a commitment to personalizing learning for all students and meeting high expectations.
- Maintain grade books, ensure student academic integrity, make student placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to concerns.
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
- Support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues, and troubleshoot in a virtual classroom environment.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and communicate with them in a timely manner.
- Travel up to 20% of the time for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Active state teaching license
- Ability to clear required background check
Qualifications
- Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
- Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4)
- Receptive to receiving coaching on a regular basis with administrators
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong written/verbal communication skills
Skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data, and use it to drive instructional decisions.

Pay
Salary range is determined based on the position's level and expected contribution, and the employee's benefits elections. Offers will typically be in the bottom half of the range.
