High School Special Education Teacher

Residency strongly preferred in West Virginia; may consider residents of surrounding states (KY, PA, OH, MD, DE, or VA). Start date is immediate.

About the Role

The remote High School Special Education Teacher is a state-certified educator responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. The teacher must provide instruction, support, and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs as defined by each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Responsibilities include compliance documentation, collaboration with parents and related service staff, and ensuring students with special needs receive appropriate therapies, accommodations, and modifications.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all special education and related services are provided as determined by the IEP team, including communication with parents and related service staff.
• Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other state-required special education documentation.
• Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, such as annual IEP meetings.
• Use provided resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities (e.g., assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, accessible text).
• Modify Stride K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP.
• Ensure inclusion and success of students in the general education classroom.
• Collect data and work samples to monitor student progress toward IEP goals and objectives.
• Document all contact with parents and interventions with students.
• Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed.
• Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
• Personalize learning for all students and maintain high expectations for student success.
• Maintain a grade book, ensure academic integrity, and make student placement and promotion decisions.
• Alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress.
• Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
• Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and communicate regularly with students and learning coaches/parents.
• Support learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional, and basic troubleshooting issues in a virtual classroom.
• Travel up to 20% of the time for face-to-face professional development, student testing, or as required by the school.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Active state Special Education teaching license. If certified in another state, must obtain West Virginia reciprocity within 60 days of employment.
• Six months of student teaching experience.
• Ability to clear required background check(s).
• Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
• Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday (typically 9–5 or 8–4, or as defined by the school).

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Ability to collaborate with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data for instructional decisions.
• Receptive to regular coaching from administrators.
• Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with high school students.
• Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
• Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment.
• Experience with online learning platforms.

Pay

Salary range: $48,000 with eligibility for a performance bonus. Stride, Inc. considers education, experience, qualifications, and work location when determining salary. Offers typically fall in the bottom half of the range, which is $26,104.00–$48,000.
