About the role
This position functions as a Science Teacher at the senior high school level, responsible for instructing and facilitating learning, maintaining academic progress, discipline, and records for students.
Responsibilities
- Instructs through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations in one or more subjects such as English, mathematics, or social studies.
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to students.
- Administers and grades tests to evaluate student progress.
- Establishes and enforces rules and procedures to maintain order in the classroom.
- Observes, evaluates, and prepares reports on the progress of students.
- Discusses students' problems and progress with parents and staff.
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
- Prepares classroom instructions to promote students' success on state assessment exams.
- Observes, enforces, and is directed by the policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the school district.
Additional Duties
- Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Equipment
- This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines.
- Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel
- Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.
Physical And Mental Demands
- Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb stairs, reach overhead, lift up to 20 pounds.

- Communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information.
- Communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed.

Qualifications
- Current valid teaching license through KSDE, with a Science endorsement required.
Interrelations
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
- Working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day-to-day tasks.
- Working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Understanding and responding appropriately to customer needs and maintaining a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
- Interacting with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and providing quick, responsive customer service.
Punctuality And Appearance
- Employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position.
