Responsibilities
- Teach critical reading strategies, literary analysis, informational and argumentative text analysis, vocabulary building, and evidence-based reasoning.
- Explain how to analyze author purpose, evaluate argument validity, interpret figurative language, and synthesize multiple texts.
- Prepare high school students for AP courses, SAT/ACT reading sections, and college readiness.
- Guide students through close reading, annotation, and analytical response construction for complex texts.
- Interpret poetry and prose, evaluate rhetorical strategies in nonfiction, identify logical fallacies, and synthesize ideas across multiple sources.
- Develop independent critical reading skills and connect reading analysis to persuasive writing and informed citizenship.
- Adapt instruction using diverse text selections, scaffolded annotation guides, and discussion-based analysis.
- Identify and address common student challenges, such as comprehending archaic or complex language and analyzing unfamiliar genres.
- Use multiple teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs and styles.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of high school reading standards and common student challenges.
- Ability to teach close reading, annotation, and analytical response construction for complex high school texts.
- Familiarity with adapting instruction for students at varying levels, from struggling to advanced.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
- Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
