Responsibilities

• Teach critical reading strategies, literary analysis, and informational/argumentative text analysis.
• Explain how to analyze author purpose, evaluate argument validity, interpret figurative language, and synthesize multiple texts.
• Prepare students for AP courses, SAT/ACT reading sections, and college readiness.
• Guide students through close reading, annotation, and analytical response construction for complex texts.
• Interpret poetry and prose, evaluate rhetorical strategies in nonfiction, and identify logical fallacies in arguments.
• Synthesize ideas across multiple sources and connect reading analysis to persuasive writing and informed citizenship.
• Adapt instruction using diverse text selections, scaffolded annotation guides, and discussion-based analysis.
• Support students from struggling to advanced levels, building toward college-level textual analysis.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of high school reading standards and common challenges (e.g., comprehending archaic language, analyzing unfamiliar genres, sustaining focus on extended readings).
• Ability to identify concepts students struggle with and explain material using multiple approaches.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
