Responsibilities

• Teach critical reading strategies, literary analysis, informational and argumentative text analysis, vocabulary building, and evidence-based reasoning.
• Explain how to analyze author purpose, evaluate argument validity, interpret figurative language, and synthesize multiple texts.
• Prepare high school students for AP courses, SAT/ACT reading sections, and college readiness.
• Guide students through close reading, annotation, and analytical response construction for complex texts.
• Help students interpret poetry and prose, evaluate rhetorical strategies in nonfiction, identify logical fallacies, and synthesize ideas across multiple sources.
• Develop independent critical reading skills and connect reading analysis to persuasive writing and informed citizenship.
• Adapt instruction using diverse text selections, scaffolded annotation guides, and discussion-based analysis to support students from struggling to advanced levels.
• Identify and address common student challenges, such as comprehending archaic or complex language, analyzing unfamiliar genres, and sustaining focus on extended readings.
• Use multiple teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs and styles.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of high school reading standards and advanced subject mastery in critical reading strategies, literary analysis, and text complexity navigation.
• Ability to teach close reading, annotation, and analytical response construction for complex high school texts.
• Familiarity with common challenges high school readers face, such as comprehending archaic language, analyzing unfamiliar genres, and sustaining focus.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt instruction to different learning styles and student needs.
• Skilled at identifying concepts students struggle with and explaining material using multiple approaches.
