Responsibilities

• Teach critical reading strategies, literary analysis, and informational/argumentative text analysis.
• Explain how to analyze author purpose, evaluate argument validity, interpret figurative language, and synthesize multiple texts.
• Prepare students for AP courses, SAT/ACT reading sections, and college readiness.
• Guide students through close reading, annotation, and analytical response construction for complex texts.
• Help students interpret poetry and prose, evaluate rhetorical strategies, identify logical fallacies, and synthesize ideas across sources.
• Develop independent critical reading skills and connect reading analysis to persuasive writing and informed citizenship.
• Adapt instruction using diverse text selections, scaffolded annotation guides, and discussion-based analysis.
• Support students from struggling to advanced levels, building toward college-level textual analysis.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of high school reading standards and common student challenges (e.g., archaic language, unfamiliar genres, sustained focus).
• Ability to identify and address concepts students commonly struggle with using multiple teaching approaches.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Experience adapting instruction to different learning styles and student needs.
