High School Girls Tennis Assistant Coach
Brandywine Heights Area School District (BHASD) is seeking an Assistant Coach for the High School Girls Tennis team.
About the role
The Assistant Coach instructs athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to foster individual and team success. The role emphasizes character development—self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment—while modeling socially acceptable behaviors. The coach is expected to continuously upgrade their knowledge through clinics, observations, and consultation.
The position carries significant community visibility and responsibility, balancing public expectations with the core objectives of good sportsmanship and mental health. Additional considerations include extended hours, risk of injury, and due-process scenarios.
Responsibilities
- Organize and supervise the tennis program.
- Teach technical skills, strategy, and conditioning.
- Promote character development, discipline, and confidence in student athletes.
- Stay current with coaching theories and best practices.
- Serve as a positive role model for student athletes.
- Manage community and parental expectations while prioritizing sportsmanship and mental well-being.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Substantial knowledge of tennis techniques and strategies.
- Previous successful coaching experience in the sport.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Schedule
Part-time, fall athletic season (approximately mid-August through mid-October).
Pay
Co-Curricular Stipend: $2,000 per season.
