About the role
KIPP Memphis Public Schools is part of KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program), a national network of tuition-free, open-enrollment, public schools that help students from educationally underserved communities develop the knowledge, skills, character, and habits needed to succeed in college and beyond. Founded in 2002, KIPP Memphis serves over 1,200 K–12 students in three North Memphis schools and supports nearly 900 alumni through its KIPP Forward program.

Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver effective, high-quality, rigorous ELA instruction for grades 9–12 aligned to the school’s curriculum and responsive to individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and developmentally appropriate for student maturity and interests.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with best practices, content knowledge, and student needs.
- Implement the region’s educational philosophy, KIPP Memphis curriculum, and instructional goals and objectives.
- Use diagnostic assessments regularly to identify student strengths and needs for targeted intervention or acceleration toward academic and leadership standards.
- Take necessary precautions to ensure classroom and school safety for all students.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
- Assist the administrative team in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and actively engage in all professional development opportunities.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Required Bachelor’s degree.
- Active Tennessee state licensure and certification with an endorsement matching the subject area and grade band.
- Commitment to working with educationally underserved students.
- Commitment to the design and development of the school.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least two years of teaching experience.
- Master’s in Education or in the teaching content area.
- Strength in the content area or Highly Qualified status.
- Experience teaching in an urban school and/or charter network.
Other Qualifications
- Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable.
- Eligibility to work in the United States and provide work authorization.
- Occasional travel to KIPP Memphis campuses may be required.
ADA Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing and actively monitoring student behavior while teaching.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to traverse the classroom and adjust height by bending or leaning to teach each child.
- Ability to facilitate classroom transitions by walking through hallways and up and down stairs with students.
