High School Completion RLA and Social Studies Instructor

About the role

The qualified teacher will demonstrate proficiency in the skills of reading, writing, and mathematics and be able to instruct RLA and Social Studies according to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

Responsibilities

• Provide numeracy instruction for high school equivalency, and work readiness to our students.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the subject(s) to be taught.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
• Demonstrate knowledge of the Connecticut Competency System (CCS), including the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment (CASAS) Competencies.
• Use results from CASAS Pre/Post Assessment to plan and differentiate instruction based on learner's abilities and goals.
• Effectively communicate with students.
• Provide opportunity for students to receive out-of-class instruction and or assistance.
• Work with Program Facilitator in the implementation of the Connecticut Competency System (CCS).
• Teach using the Blended Learning Environment Model for their students.
• Attend staff meetings at the beginning of each semester and as needed.
• Support the adult education program by attending the annual Awards Ceremony and the annual Connecticut Association for Adult and Continuing Education (CAACE) Conference.

Qualifications

The qualified teacher will meet the requirements of the Windsor Board of Education for this position. Windsor Adult Education teachers will maintain their Adult Education Endorsements and provide a copy to the program facilitator (endorsement 107). Windsor Adult Education staff and employees will adhere and comply with all mandates set forth by the Connecticut State Department of Education.

Professional Development, Meetings and Awards Ceremony

• Staff development is offered in accordance with the professional needs of the staff and the instructional objectives of the program.
• Windsor Adult Education Teachers will agree and adhere to the Windsor Public Schools Professional Growth Policy P4120: P4120.

Technology

• Be knowledgeable and comfortable using technology for planning and instruction including but not limited to computers (laptop/desktop), iPad, chrome book, Smart board, projector, etc.
• Be knowledgeable and comfortable using Gmail and Google Docs.

Pupil and Classroom Management

• Be on time for all of their scheduled classes.
• Supervise assigned class and not leave students unsupervised at any time.
• Effectively organize time, space, materials, and equipment for instruction.
• Create a positive learning environment, enforcing student behavior contracts as outlined in the student handbook.
• Follow up with students who have poor attendance.
• Enter timely and accurate student attendance in the LACES reporting system.

Awareness of Individual Needs

• Help students develop positive self-concepts.

Pay

$50.08/hr.

Tuesdays, 9:00am-11:30am LPW/BOE, Room 12

Two 12 Week Semesters
Fall semester starts Monday, September 21, 2026
Spring semester starts Monday, January 25, 2026
