Adult Basic Education RLA and Social Studies Teacher
About the role
The position is located at LP Wilson Center/BOE District Office on Tuesdays from 12:00PM-2:30PM. Two 12-week semesters are scheduled: Fall starting September 21, 2026 and Spring starting January 25, 2027.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics
- Instruct Reading, Language Arts (RLA), and Social Studies according to CCSS
- Show proficiency in computer skills
- Meet Windsor Board of Education requirements
- Maintain Adult Education Endorsement and provide a copy to the program facilitator
- Adhere to and comply with all mandates set by the Connecticut State Department of Education
Basic Functions
- Provide numeracy instruction and work readiness to high school equivalency students
Duties And Responsibilities
- Display knowledge of subjects to be taught
- Apply knowledge of CCSS and CCS, including CASAS competencies
- Utilize CASAS pre/post assessment results to plan and differentiate instruction
- Communicate effectively with students
- Offer out-of-class instruction and assistance to students
- Collaborate with Program Facilitator in implementing CCS
- Use Blended Learning Environment Model for students
- Attend staff meetings at the start of each semester and as needed
Pupil and Classroom Management
- Be punctual for all scheduled classes
- Safeguard assigned classes and ensure students are supervised at all times
- Organize time, space, materials, and equipment for effective instruction
- Create and enforce a positive learning environment
- Follow up with students who exhibit poor attendance
- Enter timely and accurate student attendance in the LACES reporting system
Awareness of Individual Needs
- Understand human growth and development in relation to the teaching-learning process
- Help students develop positive self-concepts
Professional Development, Meetings and Awards Ceremony
- Participate in staff development opportunities aligned with professional needs and program objectives
- Adhere to the Windsor Public Schools Professional Growth Policy P4120
Technology
- Be knowledgeable and comfortable using technology for planning and instruction, including computers, iPads, Chromebooks, Smart boards, projectors, and Google tools
Benefits
Hourly wage of $50.08.
Pay
$50.08/hr.
