About the role
The Home Health Aide/CNA carries out supportive duties for the Nursing Department of a health care provider by performing specified, non-clinical skills under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, or other Agency designated health care professional. If assigned to a psychiatric patient, aide/CNA has documented experience in additional training to be able to meet the needs of this specialized population.
Responsibilities
- Provides assistance with personal care, hygiene, and activities of daily living.
- Encourages client participation in activities to the extent to which the client is able.
- Affords assistance with ambulation as instructed.
- Affords assistance to: a) bed, b) commode, c) chair.
- Turns and positions bed bound clients.
- Makes measurements and records intake/output, as assigned.
- Makes measurements and records temperature, pulse and respiration on each visit.
- Changes bed linen if needed.
- Prepares simple meals following dietary instructions as instructed.
- Maintains a neat and clean environment.
- May grocery shop one time a week for list of ten items or less as needed.
- Informs supervisor of any changes in client’s condition or home situation.
- Follows care plan as written.
- Provides documentation of care given on Agency approved forms.
- Reports any changes in patient’s condition, living conditions etc., to RN/Supervisor as they occur.
- Performs any other task/duty that is specifically assigned by supervisor, and for which aide has been specifically trained.
- Documentation of specific training must be included in employee’s personnel file.
- Conducts self in a professional manner at all times and in all situations.
- Provides Agency with: a) required certificate, and b) necessary information to be able to verify experience, c) documentation of continuing education.
- Accepts only those assignments for which he/she qualified.
- Complies with all Agency policies and procedures.
- Communicates with Agency about any problems or concerns.
Requirements
- CNA/ HHA active License
- CPR certification
- Current State License or Registration as a Certified Nursing Assistant (as required by state)
