Missouri Baptist Medical Center, an acute care hospital in St. Louis County, offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services, including heart care, cancer, women and infants, breast health, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, stroke, therapy, wound and pain management services. The hospital has a 24-hour adult emergency department and cares for pediatric patients at a separate emergency department in collaboration with St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Missouri Baptist is the first and only hospital in St. Louis County to be named a Magnet® hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a prestigious designation achieved by less than nine percent of hospitals nationwide. Additionally, U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital #2 in the St. Louis metro area.

The dialysis unit provides dialysis and ultrafiltration for hospital inpatients on chronic dialysis and those requiring acute dialysis. The unit consists of 6 stations monitored by an all-RN staff. This position is for 12-hour night shifts on a 6-week rotating schedule, including one holiday per year (rotating winter/summer), taking call 1–2 times per week, every 3rd Saturday, and some Sunday call. Prior hemodialysis or peritoneal experience is required. Staff hours are staggered to maintain patient coverage, with the unit opening at 06:30 and closing when the last procedure is completed.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
  • Educates patients and their families on managing illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver in accordance with established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
  • Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
  • Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing (Bachelor's Degree preferred).
  • Current RN licensure.
  • Prior hemodialysis or peritoneal experience required.
