About the role

Responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments related to the conveyance of patients in need of emergency services. The pilot-in-command processes flight assignments from the Life Flight Communications Center and determines whether to accept or decline based on weather conditions or other safety factors.

Responsibilities

  • Plans flight assignments and obtains briefing information regarding purpose of the flight, weather, operating procedures, and special instructions.
  • Conducts a start-of-shift briefing with assigned medical, communications, and ground personnel.
  • Ensures the aircraft is prepared pre-flight per the General Operating Manual; inspected, loaded, equipped, fueled, and staffed for flight.
  • Supervises and assists with loading and distribution of cargo and passengers, ensuring weight and balance are within prescribed limitations.
  • Ensures cargo is properly secured and emergency equipment is aboard.
  • Files, activates, and closes flight plans.
  • Ensures proper completion of flight logs, records, and maintenance forms.
  • Checks aircraft discrepancy log prior to flight to confirm all discrepancies are corrected or deferred.
  • Logs all mechanical discrepancies and informs maintenance personnel.
  • Notifies the Life Flight Communications Center of the aircraft’s service status.
  • Participates in post-flight debriefings.
  • Keeps navigation charts current and up to date.
  • Maintains proficiency as Pilot-in-Command and in SPIFR operations.

Requirements

  • FAA commercial pilot with an instrument rating.
  • 2000 hours total time or 1500 hours total time with ATP rating.
  • 1500 hours helicopter time.
  • 1000 hours helicopter Pilot-in-Command time.
  • 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time (at least 50 hours in actual flight).
  • 1000 hours helicopter turbine time.
  • 500 hours cross-country flight time.
  • 100 hours of night flight time.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED).
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Licensed Commercial Helicopter Pilot with Instrument Helicopter Rating (FAA).

Schedule

7 days on, 7 days off rotation.

Pay

  • $25,000 sign-on bonus for pilots.
  • 1.5X base salary for extra shifts, plus additional financial incentives.
